Developing strong phonics and decoding skills is essential for building confident, successful readers. While explicit phonics instruction provides students with the foundational skills they need, many elementary students require repeated practice to master phonics patterns and apply decoding strategies accurately and fluently.
The purpose of this project is to provide engaging, hands-on phonics games that reinforce the phonics curriculum taught in the general education classroom. These interactive games will make phonics intervention sessions more enjoyable while giving students meaningful opportunities to practice targeted skills through play-based learning. By increasing student engagement and motivation, these activities will encourage active participation and repeated practice, leading to stronger phonics knowledge, improved decoding skills, and greater reading confidence.
Phonics games will be incorporated into small-group intervention sessions to provide students with engaging, targeted practice of key phonics skills and decoding rules. These games will reinforce the phonics concepts students are learning in their general education classrooms while providing the repeated practice needed to achieve mastery.
Through consistent repetition and hands-on activities, students will build accuracy, fluency, and confidence in decoding words. The game-based format will increase student engagement and motivation, making phonics practice both enjoyable and effective. By strengthening foundational literacy skills in a fun, interactive way, students will be better prepared for reading success.
