The purpose of this project is to request materials necessary to establish a new Positive Behavior Support (PBS) based Intensive Behavior Intervention unit (IBI-3), within CCPS. This is the first time an IBI program will be at Big Cypress Elementary (BCE), and materials are needed to establish a strong and successful new IBI unit. The program relies heavily on daily, weekly, and leveling-up rewards. Materials are needed to support emotional and sensory regulation, and for the related reward systems. The students in an IBI unit require individualized reinforcement to remain focused, participate appropriately, and achieve their academic and behavioral goals. The supplies requested are not fully covered through the school's operating budget but are essential to creating a learning environment where students can stay motivated, make good choices, and experience success.
Students will actively participate in a classroom-wide Positive Behavior Support system that teaches and reinforces expected positive behaviors throughout the school day. Students will earn tokens, points, and other incentives for demonstrating positive behaviors such as following directions, staying safe, and being respectful. Funding will provide sensory tools, fidgets, calming resources, cooperative materials, and daily and weekly rewards which will keep the students motivated to stay focused and learning throughout the school day. These materials will be incorporated into daily instruction, social-emotional learning lessons, calming zones, and daily and weekly classroom reward times. The reinforcement systems will encourage students to use their replacement behaviors while increasing instructional time and reducing disruptions. Students will have opportunities to celebrate behavioral growth throughout the school year.
If my grant is funded, then my students will have increased engagement during instruction, improved self-regulation and emotional control, increased use of positive replacement behaviors, reduced classroom disruptions and behavioral incidents, improved academic readiness, and greater success meeting their academic, social emotional, communication and independent functioning goals. Success will be measured through classroom behavior data, Individualized Education Program (IEP) progress monitoring, behavior tracking sheets, teacher observations, and reductions in time spent outside of instruction due to behavioral incidents.
This grant is for positive behavior support supplies necessary to run an Intensive Behavior Intervention unit for 3 IBI-3 classrooms, approximately 30 students. The supplies requested will be used to create calming and sensory regulation zones, provide treasure box items for daily behavior rewards, supply materials for weekly group behavior rewards, and support the social and emotional regulation necessary to achieve daily instructional and learning success. Every requested item directly supports student participation, increases instructional time, builds regulation skills, decreases behavior incidents, builds good decision making skills, and helps students develop the behavioral skills necessary for instructional learning and overall academic success.
