After 10 successful years our current machine is very loved and in desperate need of an upgrade to continue the program. The program inspires and motivates students to work collaboratively as a class to earn popcorn party rewards on a bi-monthly basis. This positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) will cater to the diverse learners within my classroom program, while cultivating a community of learners.
Students will have the opportunity to earn a popcorn class point on a daily basis. This will be implemented in conjunction with my behavior modification program. When the students follow the classroom expectations, they are awarded a popcorn point for that day. After two weeks, the class/classes with the most points will celebrate with Popcorn Friday. Each student will receive their own bag of popcorn made especially for them with choices of toppings/seasonings.
Over the 10 years nearly 750 students have benefitted from this program! Funding "Popping into Middle School" will provide a rewarding and positive atmosphere for cooperative learning and student engagement as each class works together toward a common goal. This program is well-known throughout the school, and often a highlight of middle school for many learners!
This budget will cover the new popcorn machine for our next decade of rewards. It will also include the non-food related items needed to use for the school year. This machine will reach up to 75 of students this year, and even more in years to come.
