The goal of this project is to create an engaging, well-equipped 6th-grade English Language Arts (ELA) learning environment. By providing essential school supplies and expanding our classroom library with Florida Sunshine State books and level-appropriate novels, the project aims to eliminate material barriers, improve reading comprehension, foster a love for literacy, and support interactive, collaborative learning.
Students will use the materials daily during ELA instruction, small-group guided reading, and independent study:
Classroom Library & Novels: Students will participate in independent reading time, literature circles, and book clubs using the new Florida Sunshine State books and diverse novels. They will practice critical thinking, track narrative arcs, and participate in peer discussions.
Notebooks & Writing Tools: The 3-subject spiral notebooks will serve as interactive student notebooks (ISNs) for vocabulary, grammar instruction, and response-to-reading journals.
Highlighters & Markers: Students will use highlighters for text annotation, close reading, and identifying evidence. Dry-erase markers will be used on individual whiteboards for quick-check formative assessments, while permanent markers will support group anchor-chart projects and poster presentations.
Equal Access to Learning: Ensures all students have necessary tools regardless of financial background.
Increased Literacy Engagement: Providing current Sunshine State titles and high-interest 6th-grade novels motivates reluctant readers and boosts reading stamina.
Enhanced Active Learning: Interactive notebooks and annotation tools promote active engagement and help solidify reading comprehension skills.
Collaborative Skill-Building: Shared tools (markers, dry-erase, group posters) encourage teamwork, communication, and creative expression.
