Project Purpose:
a) What is the overall purpose of your project?
The purpose of this project to to provide easy and fun access to learning the alphabet, reading, and spelling.
b) What need(s) does it address?
Our PK-5th grade students in the IBI2 and PK-D programs love movement and hands-on learning. This project provides a chance for the students to stand and move along our classroom magnetic boards as they manipulate the easy-to-hold large, colorful, magnetic foam letters.
c) What learning goal, academic standard, or outcome does your project address?
All of our students have IEP goals involving matching letters (upper/lower case), identifying CVC words, or reading/spelling.
d) How does this project connect to a school or district priority?
Our school is working to increase our state test scores for our students in ESE programs.
a) How will students actively participate?
Our students will use these letters as a choice during independent rotations or as a manipulative during one to one work with teachers and paraprofessionals.
b) How will this project meet the needs of your students, classroom, and or/school?
Our students need a variety of visual, auditory, and tactile ways to help engage in learning the foundations of literacy.
Expected Outcomes:
a) What specific improvements do you expect for your students?
Student improvement in letter identification and matching and short word reading and spelling is expected. Independent play skills will also increase.
b) How will you know the project was successful?
Project success may be measured in increased IEP goal progress.
c) What evidence, observations, student work, or assessments will demonstrate impact?
Evidence of project success may be demonstrated in student engagement and requests for activity, IEP progress reports, and school report cards.

a) Explain how the requested items directly support student learning and project goals.
Other magnetic, soft letters sold are smaller and may present a choking hazard or easily broken. These particular letters are 5 inches tall and made of sturdy foam.
b) How many students will benefit from the project?
Our four IBI2 and PK-D classes currently have 26 students. We typically gain more younger students throughout the school year.
