Becoming Math Wizards through Interactive Technology

My goal with this project is to use two online programs; Way Ground during class and GIMKIT for warm-ups/homework to give supportive practice for all differentiated students in the classroom and at home. These programs are based on the grade level Florida Benchmarks so that mastery can be done for the upcoming state assessments in a unique way instead of the same old boring worksheet. I want math to be exciting and engaging for my students so that not only will they stay on task but that they can build confidence in their academic abilities and be successful.

Way Ground and GIMKIT both provide a variety of ways to master the 7th grade Math curriculum from basic number sense and computation skills to advanced mathematical reasoning ensuring that all students receive appropriate levels of challenges to achieve competency and fluency in mathematical thinking. Both programs have a monitoring tool for teachers to track if their students are struggling or mastering an assigned benchmark thus allowing that teacher to adjust instruction accordingly. Through interactive lessons, presentations, videos, flashcards and quizzes, Way Ground will be used during classroom instruction and practice. GIMKIT will be their online resource for homework/warm-ups. This extension to Way Ground puts their curriculum content in high interest visibility games with support to help them practice independently, keep them engaged, and give students the flexibility to complete it anywhere and on any device. This is beneficial to all my students and particularly those whose parents are divorced and have to bounce between houses on weekends and students who have sports trips or out of school due to illness.

Through this project, students will have the opportunity to build their Math knowledge of the Florida state tested benchmarks through visuals, hands-on learning, peer grouping, modeling, and mastery. The differentiated activities is a tool to motivate all students to complete tasks and learn. It makes a significant difference for that student who needs guidance through their native language or requires an IEP accommodation for extra support when completing tasks. It is also a way for the student to complete a grade level assignment with their peers without feeling akward about their needed accommodation.

I will use this funding to buy a teacher subscription to: Way Ground (A district supported site ($216)) GimKit. ($60) This project will directly benefit at least 110 students across five math classes this academic year.
