To support our students in an active and fun way of introducing striking, throwing, and
catching objects to support volleyball skills as well as other activities that use the same
movements. This equipment will be used in PE class to learn and develop the necessary skill sets, and then be utilized in school-wide activities, such as Field Day, Fall Festival, End of Year Celebrations, etc.
9 Square is an active game that is played like 4 square, but up in the air. Nine students are
playing at once, while trying to keep a ball up in the air and not allowing it to fall in their
square or hit it out of bounds. Students are able to use different types of balls, while also
raising the height of the equipment to strike, catch, and throw to another square, increasing
or decreasing the difficulty based on the abilities of each age group.
9 square is a great way to help our younger students begin to strike and catch a ball using
the proper movements to be successful, while also throwing to others and using the idea of
teamwork and sharing. These ideas are also used with the older students, while also
focusing in on more specific skills that prepare them for volleyball in middle school and
making the game more fast paced and exciting. The 9 Square equipment will allow more
students to be playing at once, which will help them have more time to practice their skills
based on their particular level.
Grant funds will cover the 9 Square equipment, taxes and shipping cost that is purchased
from Castle Sports.
