Additional Details
The goal of this project is to increase engagement, independence, and foundational academic skills for special needs learners with intellectual disabilities by providing developmentally appropriate educational games. These interactive tools will support individualized learning needs, strengthen cognitive and literacy skills, and create meaningful opportunities for students to practice problem‑solving, communication, and social interaction through play‑based learning.
Students will participate in daily, structured learning activities using educational games designed for learners with intellectual disabilities. During small‑group and one‑on‑one instruction, students will use interactive games to practice foundational academic skills such as letter recognition, phonics, counting, matching, sequencing, and problem‑solving. These games will also support cognitive development by strengthening memory, attention, and processing skills through repeated, hands‑on practice.
Increased Engagement and Motivation
Educational games capture students’ attention and make learning enjoyable. For learners with intellectual disabilities, high‑interest, hands‑on activities significantly increase participation and reduce frustration.
Strengthened Foundational Academic Skills
Games provide repeated practice with essential skills—letter recognition, phonics, counting, matching, sequencing, and problem‑solving—in a format that feels fun rather than overwhelming.
Enhanced Social and Communication Skills
Many games require turn‑taking, sharing, collaboration, and communication. These structured interactions help students practice social skills in a safe, supportive environment.
More Inclusive Classroom Experiences
Games create opportunities for all students to participate in centers, small groups, and independent learning time. This promotes equity and ensures students with intellectual disabilities are fully included in daily routines.
The purpose of this funding is to provide special needs learners with high‑interest, interactive educational games that make learning more accessible and motivating. These tools will help students practice essential skills—such as letter recognition, phonics, counting, matching, sequencing, memory, and problem‑solving—through structured, play‑based activities that support their IEP goals and daily classroom routines.
