The goal of this project is to provide the Pace Pathways Service Club with t-shirts that would identify them when they are supporting elementary school classrooms and to be able to give a thank you gift to students and teachers that they work with through the school year. The Pace Pathways Community Service Club works in partnership with the RCMA Immokalee Community School (K-8) which is located just a few blocks from the Pace Center for Girls. Over the past two school years, Pace high school students have partnered with RCMA classrooms to support teachers in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades.
The Pace students assist elementary classrooms as they learn math, reading, and science. They also have participated together in recess activities. Teachers have expressed their appreciation for the classroom support and have graciously continued the partnership. The service club spends one and a half to three hours a month during the school year with elementary students building relationships and supporting learning.
Elementary students love having the attention of the high school students with one-on-one learning support in the classroom. The high schoolers find purpose and confidence in supporting younger children through their academic questions. This partnership has improved attendance at school and built confidence in learners from elementary through high school. We have also seen a few high school students develop an interest and further pursue early child education due, in part, from their time in the service club working with elementary students.
10 custom t-shirts to identify Pace Pathways Service Club students when they are visiting RCMA Immokalee Community School $15.00/each $150.00 total. End of year gifts for the elementary students in the supported classrooms (books, stickers, pencils) about 100 students $700 (books $6/ea, stickers $20/300 stickers, pencils $80/120 pencils with caps in bulk pack).
