The goal of this project is to provide a safe, organized, and effective charging and storage solution for the Chromebooks used by 18 fifth-grade students. A designated classroom charging station will allow students to independently store, charge, and retrieve their devices while keeping cords contained and our classroom safe and organized.
In addition to protecting our technology investment, the charging station will help students build responsibility for classroom materials and allow us to transition between classes and learning activities more efficiently.
Our classroom currently lacks an appropriate storage and charging system for 18 student Chromebooks. This creates both organizational and safety concerns. Charging cables can hang or become tangled, creating potential tripping hazards and making it difficult for students to safely access their devices.
The lack of secure storage has also resulted in Chromebooks being dropped and damaged. Because devices must be moved and stored throughout the day, students are doing their best within a system that simply was not designed to support the number of devices we use.
We have tried several creative and inexpensive solutions to address the problem. Unfortunately, these temporary solutions have not been sustainable and have resulted in personal classroom spending without solving the underlying issue.
A dedicated charging station would provide a long-term solution rather than continuing to spend money on temporary fixes. It would protect our devices, reduce classroom clutter, improve safety, and allow students to manage their technology more independently.
Chromebooks are an important learning tool in our fifth-grade classroom and are used throughout the school day for research, writing, digital curriculum, assessments, and other learning activities. Currently, however, our classroom does not have a safe or effective system for storing and charging our 18 student Chromebooks.
Students are responsible for plugging in, storing, and retrieving their devices, but our current setup leaves charging cords exposed and devices without secure individual storage spaces. Despite students' best efforts to keep the area organized, cords become tangled, devices are difficult to access, and transitions between our two fifth-grade classes can become unnecessarily challenging.
With a classroom charging station, each Chromebook will have a designated, protected space. Students will be taught a consistent routine for returning their Chromebook, connecting it to its charger, and retrieving it when needed. This will create a student-managed system that supports responsibility, organization, and smoother classroom transitions.
This project will directly benefit 18 fifth-grade students each day and will continue to benefit future classes for years to come.
A dedicated Chromebook charging station will create a safer classroom by containing charging cables and providing secure storage for devices. It will also reduce the likelihood of Chromebooks being dropped or damaged, helping protect valuable school technology.
Students will benefit from a predictable system in which every device has a designated location. This supports independence, responsibility, and executive-function skills while reducing the time spent untangling cords, locating devices, or reorganizing the charging area.
Most importantly, an organized charging system allows transitions to happen more smoothly so that classroom time can be spent on learning rather than managing technology.
Grant funds will be used to purchase one classroom Chromebook charging and storage station capable of safely accommodating 18 student devices and their charging cables.
The station will provide individual spaces for Chromebooks while keeping power cords contained and organized. Funding this equipment will replace the temporary storage solutions currently being used and provide a durable, long-term system for protecting classroom technology.
This is a one-time investment that will serve students across multiple school years. By reducing accidental damage, improving device organization, and eliminating the need to continually purchase temporary storage solutions, the charging station will provide both an immediate and lasting benefit to our classroom.
