I am requesting science fair project boards so that every student has the materials needed to present their investigation. For many of our students, this will be their first experience designing and completing a scientific investigation from beginning to end. Having their own project board will give them a professional space to organize and communicate their research, question, hypothesis, procedures, data, observations, results, and conclusions.
Science is all about asking questions, investigating problems, analyzing evidence, and sharing what we discover. This year, my fourth-grade students will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of being real scientists through a classroom science fair.
The science fair will encourage students to take ownership of their learning and see themselves as capable young scientists. Students will practice important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, research, data analysis, writing, and oral communication while investigating questions that are meaningful to them. The board will be that important piece that will allow them to display the process, their findings, and their learning.
Providing a project board for each student is especially important because I want every child to have an equal opportunity to participate and proudly showcase their work. Rather than worrying about whether they can purchase or find the necessary presentation materials, students can focus their energy on the most important part—their scientific discovery.
When students stand beside their completed projects and explain what they discovered, they are not simply displaying a school assignment. They are developing confidence in their ability to ask questions, seek answers, learn from evidence, and share their ideas with others.
The purpose of the funding it to provide each student with their own science project board.
