The goal of this project is to provide our Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and English Language Learning (ELL) students with individual headphones to eliminate distractions and create an ideal environment for learning. By providing access to headphones, we can increase student engagement, improve focus, and maximize the effectiveness of our school's educational software programs.
The requested set of headphones will be integrated daily into our curriculum to create a differentiated and focused learning environment. During daily independent learning rotations and weekly assessments, students will use the headphones to eliminate classroom noise, allowing them to focus without distraction. Students will utilize their headphones to listen to audiobooks, read-aloud programs, hear digital math and science simulations, and focus on assessments. This will enable students to hear directions repeated, pronunciation of new words, and modeled fluency which will contribute to improved comprehension. English Language Learners (ELL) and students with specific learning accommodations will be able to utilize text-to-speech software to access grade-level curriculum independently. Headphones will provide every student the opportunity to take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and provide equal access to educational programs.
As our curriculum shifts towards daily computer-based learning and state assessment preparation, students use a variety of educational software to support their learning. Without headphones, the overlapping audio creates a loud, distracting environment that makes it difficult for students to focus on learning. Headphones will allow students to engage privately with their digital lessons, support our language learners with pronunciation software, and improve daily focus. This budget will include a bulk set of wired headphones. Our low-income students often come to school without headphones or they are broken. This grant would allow our students to have a pair of working headphones for their technology needs.
