Additional Details

The goal of this project is to create a thriving herb garden that serves as a living classroom while supplying fresh, student-grown herbs for our culinary arts program. This initiative will provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect science, nutrition, agriculture and culinary arts through the complete farm-to-table process.
Students will be actively involved in planning, maintaining, and harvesting a variety of herbs, developing responsibility, teamwork, and an understanding of sustainable gardening practices. The herbs they grow will be incorporated into recipes prepared in culinary class, allowing students to experience firsthand how fresh ingredients enhance flavor, nutrition, and food quality.
Key benefits include: 1. Increased student engagement through experiential, project-based learning. 2. Enhanced understanding of plant life cycles, sustainable gardening, and environmental stewardship. 3. Improved knowledge of nutrition and the value of using fresh, homegrown ingredients in meal preparation. 4. Strengthened teamwork, responsibility, problem solving, and leadership skills through shared garden maintenance. 5. Increased student pride and confidence as they experience the satisfaction of growing food and using it to prepare meals from garden to table.
The budget will be used for raised garden beds and soil. Herb plants and seeds. Gardening tools and supplies. Mulch, compost, fertilizer and protective materials.
