My goal is to engage my students by bringing my read alouds to life by adding background music and sound effects using the Novel Effects app.
Novel Effect delivers interactive music, sound effects, and character voices that are programed to respond to my voice as I read aloud from our library books during regular read aloud time.
As the story is read, Novel Effect gives students a more immersive experience, so they are engaged and on the edge of their seats with their focus on me. The story effects are for the books we already use in our curriculum and have in our library.
Students can also use this app during our STEAM centers to encourage and motivate them to read independently.
Anything that can motivate and encourage my students to read is a plus. When I read aloud to a student or classroom with Novel Effect, the students are much more engaged and therefore are more likely to comprehend the story being read.
The app mimics their desire to watch a video but it’s real life. The story is being read by a real human (either me or a student,) but the sound effects make the story come to life. This is particularly helpful for our youngest learners, the English language learners and out special needs students.
