The goal of this project is to increase student engagement, understanding, and retention of second-grade science concepts by providing students with interactive standards-aligned learning experiences through Generation Genius. This resource will help make abstract science concepts more concrete and accessible through engaging videos, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and real-world connections.
Generation Genius will be used throughout the school year to enhance our second-grade science curriculum. Lessons will incorporate engaging science videos, demonstrations, vocabulary development, discussion questions, reading materials, and hands-on activities that allow students to see and experience science concepts, rather than simply read about them.
Generation Genius will be used to introduce new concepts, reinforce classroom instruction, build academic vocabulary, and provide opportunities for students to apply their learning. The visual and interactive components will also help make science content more accessible to students with varying learning needs and academic levels. By connecting our science standards to real-world examples and hands-on experiences, students will have opportunities to become curious, engaged learners who think and work like young scientists.
Students will benefit from having science concepts presented in engaging, visual, and interactive ways that go beyond a traditional textbook or worksheet. Generation Genius will help make challenging or abstract concepts easier for second graders to understand through real-world examples, demonstrations, videos, and hands-on learning opportunities. This is especially valuable for visual learners, English Language Learners, and students who may struggle with reading complex informational texts. Students will build science vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, make connections between classroom learning and the world around them, and have opportunities to develop curiosity and critical-thinking skills. At our Title I school, access to high-quality supplemental resources can help provide students with engaging learning experiences they may not otherwise have.
Grant funds will be used to purchase a one-year Generation Genius classroom subscription at a total cost of $250. This digital instructional resource will provide students with access to standards-aligned science lessons, engaging educational videos, demonstrations, vocabulary resources, reading materials, discussion questions, quizzes, and hands-on activities. This subscription will be an enhancement to our existing second-grade science curriculum with engaging resources that help students to better explore and understand the concepts we are studying throughout the school year. Funding will cover the full cost of the one-year subscription, allowing students to benefit from these resources throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
