The goal of Chomp Into Reading: Gator Rewards for Readers is to increase reading engagement, comprehension, and motivation among students at East Naples Middle School. As a Title 1 school, our students benefit from additional opportunities that make academic success exciting, attainable, and rewarding. Through a point-based incentive program, students will earn rewards for completing reading comprehension tests and demonstrating consistent reading effort. The ultimate goal is to create a positive reading culture where students are excited to participate, monitor their progress, and take pride in their accomplishments as readers.
Students will earn points as they complete reading comprehension assessments and work toward increasingly exciting gator-themed rewards. Incentives will include candy, snack cart choices, popcorn parties, snow cone parties, and pizza parties. Each week when students visit the school library, they will be reminded of the rewards and encouraged to pick up a book and read.
This project will provide students with immediate encouragement while also promoting long-term reading habits. Many students at our Title 1 school are highly motivated by food-based rewards, making candy, snacks, popcorn, snow cones, and pizza effective incentives for reaching reading goals. More importantly, the program will help students connect effort and achievement with positive experiences. The program will also help build confidence, celebrate success, and create excitement around reading throughout the school year.
Funding is requested to purchase the rewards and experiences necessary to make this reading incentive program successful. While at this point, it is unknown just how much of each item will be needed, amounts listed below are in general numbers for estimated needs. All budgeted funds will go towards the purchase of all reading incentive rewards. By investing in these rewards, donors will help East Naples Middle School encourage students to chomp into reading, celebrate achievement, and develop a lasting love of books.
