Fidget, Focus, and Figure It Out: Hands-On Math Review for Second Grade Success

The purpose of Fidget, Focus, and Figure It Out: Hands-On Math Review for Second Grade Success is to provide second-grade students with engaging, hands-on math review opportunities through the use of interactive math fidget games and learning tools. This project addresses the need for increased engagement and motivation in mathematics by offering students a fun, kinesthetic way to practice and reinforce previously taught skills. The games will support key second-grade math standards, including counting, comparing numbers, identifying place value, developing fluency with addition and subtraction facts within 10 and 20, telling time to the hour, half hour, and 5-minute intervals, and solving elapsed time problems. Through repeated practice and collaborative play, students will strengthen mathematical understanding, improve accuracy and confidence, and build foundational skills necessary for future success. This project aligns with our school's and district's commitment to increasing student achievement through active engagement, differentiated instruction, and meaningful learning experiences that meet the needs of all learners.

During math review workshops, students will use a variety of math games purchased through the grant to strengthen number sense, place value, addition, and subtraction skills. Games such as the Fidget Game Rocket Race and Fidget Game Math Ahoy will provide engaging, hands-on opportunities for students to practice essential math concepts, build fluency, and increase confidence in a fun and interactive learning environment. Students will play these math games in small groups during math workshop to help review math skills such as number sense and math fluency.
