Additional Details

The goal of this grant is to provide one copy of each of the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) books from the second of three lists to the six Second Grade classrooms for this school year to increase independent reading skills of these students.
The SSYRA program is a statewide voluntary program that allows students to read the books nominated for the award in order to vote for their favorite book. This year, we have split the lists from grades K-2 and 3-5 into three separate lists. This allows second grade students with higher reading comprehension to read books that are more challenging. Students in second grade will be independently reading these books. If they read five of these books and pass the Accelerated Reader test, they will be eligible to vote for their favorite book, but can read more if they choose. In April, after voting is complete, students will learn which book was the school-wide favorite, and which book was the statewide favorite. It is a wonderful way to promote independent reading!
Reading is fundamental to every student! Independently reading books helps to further a student's comprehension and vocabulary. Reading is also the stepping stone to success in every subject, helping to increase knowledge and understanding across the curriculum. The SSYRA program provides students with types of books to students that they might not normally read, opening their eyes to different genres that they could possibly love.
Each line item is a copy of a SSYRA book from the second of three lists. The total for each line item is how much six copies would cost. Book prices were found on Amazon.com
