At Highlands Elementary, we are Glowing in Leadership this school year. We want to embrace the Leader in Me philosophy and empower every student to recognize the leader within themselves. The goal of "One Glowing Rock at a Time" project is for our Student Leadership Team to learn that leadership begins with kindness, respect, and serving others. Students will have the opportunity to paint, decorate, hide, and spread happiness in our school community with each rock they create. Rock designs will inspire by day and GLOW by night. This project will also promote inclusion and positive relationships while helping students develop creativity, confidence, and social-emotional skills. Students will learn that small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact on others as well as themselves and contribute to a welcoming school community.
The "One Glowing Rock at a Time" Student Leadership Team will paint rocks, using bright colors, inspirational words, and positive messages such as "Be Kind", "You Matter", "Smile", etc. Once rocks are completed students will place rocks throughout the school campus for classmates, staff, and visitors to enjoy. Students will have the opportunity to grow as leaders while making a positive difference in our school community. Together students will discover their talents, practice using their strengths, learn to encourage and support others, and create a welcoming school where everyone feels valued, included, and inspired to do their best. At the end of school year, the Student Leadership Team will each select a fifth-grade student and gift them with a rock they created for them remember their time at Highlands Elementary. Once a Hawk, always a Hawk.
The "One Glowing Rock at a Time" project will be a creative and meaningful project that will bring our Student Leadership Team together to spread kindness throughout our school community. As students paint colorful rocks with encouraging words, positive messages, and cheerful design they will have fun expressing their creativity, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging. Students will also learn how their words and actions can brighten their day and someone else's.
This grant funding will provide materials needed for the "One Glowing Rock at a Time" project for our Student Leadership Team. Funding will help purchase smooth landscaping rocks, acrylic paints, paint pens, paintbrushes, palettes, sealant, and protective supplies. The following materials will allow our students to create lasting kindness rocks that can be displayed throughout the school campus.
