Grant Request Subject: Mathematics

Additional Details

The purpose of this project is to integrate small, double-sided magnetic whiteboards into daily mathematics instruction, transforming passive listening into active, tactile problem-solving and immediate peer collaboration.
These mobile white boards will create vertical learning opportunities for individuals and small groups. This highly engaging medium will allow for them to quickly test hypotheses, sketch geometric figures, manipulate magnetic tiles, and erase errors instantly without frustration.
Students will be provided with a mobile double-sided magnetic whiteboard, marker, and eraser. During lessons, students will actively participate by immediately working out equations, graphing coordinates, drawing fraction models, or using magnetic counters on the boards to display their answers to the teacher or a partner on command. These boards cater to diverse learning styles, particularly visual and kinesthetic learners. They foster an inclusive environment where every student is accountable and equipped to participate simultaneously, eliminating the downtime associated with distributing and collecting traditional worksheets.
The requested double-sided magnetic whiteboards directly empower student learning by providing a versatile canvas for immediate trial and error. The magnetic feature allows students to pair dry-erase work with manipulatives (such as base-ten blocks, algebra tiles, or fraction strips), bridging the gap between concrete objects and abstract mathematical notation. This project will directly benefit at least 75 students across four math classes this academic year, with the reusable nature of the boards ensuring that hundreds of future students will benefit in years to come.
