The goal of this project is to improve speech intelligibility for preschool and kindergarten students with phonological speech disorders through the use of a highly evidence-based intervention program. By implementing the Cycles Approach with specialized materials and professional training, students will develop more accurate speech sound patterns, increasing their ability to communicate effectively with teachers, peers, and family members.
Students with highly unintelligible speech will participate in individualized and small-group speech therapy sessions using the Cycles Approach, a research-supported intervention specifically designed for children with severe phonological disorders. Therapy will incorporate engaging visual target cards and structured activities to systematically target speech sound patterns while promoting carryover into everyday communication.
This project will provide students with access to an evidence-based intervention that has been shown to significantly improve speech intelligibility during the critical early years of language development. Because the materials are durable and reusable, they will benefit numerous preschool and kindergarten students for many years, creating a lasting impact on communication skills and academic success.
Funding will be used to purchase the Complete Cycles Bundle from Bjorem Speech ($256.50), which includes the comprehensive target card stimulus kit needed to implement the Cycles Approach with fidelity. An additional $15.00 is requested to cover estimated sales tax and shipping costs. The total funding request is $271.50. These durable, reusable materials will support multiple preschool and kindergarten students with phonological speech disorders each year, providing long-term benefits for speech intelligibility and overall communication success.
